- Tasting Notes 1: Antonio Galloni-96-The 1982 Cepparello is a huge wine. Still deep in color, it boasts stunning depth and concentration. Sweet roses, mint and licorice wrap around the deep, intense finish. This is a dazzling showing. Today's Cepparellos are unquestionably more refined, but the 1982 is a monumental and historically significant wine. Hail at the end of May, just before flowering, reduced the crop by 50%, while hot summer weather took the remaining fruit to full maturity. There was no green harvesting at the time, so Mother Nature took care of it instead. This is a magnificent wine by any measure.
- Tasting Notes 2: Neal Martin-90-The 1982 Cepparello from Isole e Olena has a slightly timeworn yet captivating nose, with layers of mulberry and raspberry coulis, albeit with an acetic note lurking underneath. Yet it has retained focus and developed nuanced licorice and balsamic notes with time. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red fruit on the entry. It is slightly angular at first though it coheres with aeration and evolves a quasi-Medoc finish, holding in rather than compelling.
