- Tasting Notes 1: Antonio Galloni-95-The 2008 Barolo Bricco Sarmassa is fabulous. It boasts gorgeous inner sweetness, cool minerality and fabulous perfume. Dark cherries, mint, flowers and spices wrap around the gorgeous, chiseled finish. The Bricco Sarmassa is one of the Barolo's most under the radar wines. This is a prototypical 2008 that captures the very best qualities of the year. Layers of fruit build to the long, vibrant finish. Enzo Brezza did a great job with his Bricco Saramassa in 2008.
- Tasting Notes 2: Stephen Tanzer-91-(made from the high portion of the vintage, with the selection made at harvest-time): Medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of raspberry, black cherry, mocha, smoke and rose petal. Rich and pliant; seems much riper than the regular Sarmassa but also possesses more energy. Finishes with sweeter tannins and very good length. In comparison to this wine, the Sarmassa comes across as dull.
- Tasting Notes 3: Barolo. Mid ruby with broad orange-tinged rim. Bright, leafy cherry nose with balsamic notes. Succulent fruit with coating tannin and a layer of spice. Elegant. (WS)
