- Tasting Notes 1: Antonio Galloni-90-Marengo's 2013 Barolo Brunate is dark, sensual and inviting. A host of plum, blackberry, spice, new leather, chocolate and menthol notes flesh out in the glass. There is good depth in the glass, but less in the way of nuance of Brunate pedigree. Soft contours make the 2013 easy to drink young, but readers will have to look past the copious French oak.
- Tasting Notes 2: Monica Larner-96-The Marengo family has pulled away from the pack, thanks to the exceptional 2013 Barolo Brunate. This is a seriously stunning wine, and I highly recommend it to those who are looking to expand their Barolo horizons. Grapes are harvested from the La Morra portion of the Brunate cru, and this estate owns just one of the 25 hectares that make up the entire vineyard designate. Wines from Brunate are always more austere and complex, and they show a unique sense of grounded tannic firmness that is also slightly sweet and yielding at the same time. This wine builds power as it sits in the glass. It will look forward to a long aging future ahead.
- Tasting Notes 3: La Morra. Really well balanced. Already sweet and savoury with undertow, but massive presence.
