2016 Albariño, Igrexario de Saiar, Bodega Sucesores de Benito Santos

This comes from Spain’s surprisingly verdant and damp region of Galicia, in the northwest of the country. Bodega Sucesores de Benito San is among the most successful Galician producers of the hugely modish Albariño grape. Albariño is a relatively thick-skinned variety; in its best manifestations, such as this, the wine is rich, fullish of colour and gently spicy, with a generous and pleasing texture. Albariño, with its thick skins, is well suited to the local climate, making wines high in both alcohol and acidity. This example has a lovely ripe peach character as well.
