Part of the Special Releases 2017 line-up, this unusual Glen Elgin expression turns heads for perhaps the most unglamorous of reasons 芒?? yeast. Two totally different yeast strains, in fact.
A vatting of two batches, one part of this 18 year old expression made use of Pombe yeast in fermentation, and the other was produced using the more conventional cerevisiae yeast. The first batch was then matured on ex-bodega casks, with the second destined for refill European oak butts.
The result? A temptingly creamy whisky offering a twist on the typical Speyside character. Only 5,352 bottles have been released worldwide.
